Black Coffee Review was created as a way to showcase poets who write about the rawness of life—the dirt and grit of being human. We’re open to almost any style as long as it’s honest and has a kick. That said, please read a few poems from the magazine to get a sense of the tone and subject matter we tend to prefer.
We publish a fall and spring issue.
Submit 3–5 poems (totaling no more than 10 pages) and include a brief third-person bio with your submission.
Each poem should begin on a new page.
We accept both unpublished and previously published work (we assume you hold the copyright).
We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere and needs to be withdrawn.
Submissions are read May 1 – June 15 for the fall issue and November 1 – December 15 for the spring issue.
Submissions may close early if our reading capacity is reached.
Submissions received outside of these reading periods will be deleted unread.
Please submit only once per reading period.
Expect to hear from us within three months. Feel free to query after five months.
